The year is 2014, a new substance, SDE01, commonly referred to as "Mana" is discovered by a group of Russian scientists. The world plunges into a development race to find uses of this new seemingly unlimited source of energy that cannot be seen or felt.

16 years after the discovery, it's now the self-proclaimed Age of Magic, where you can download an App to your very phone and cast magic. However, heavy restrictions have been imposed over the available spells, and the required paperwork to even use a high level spell are astronomic.

Among the citizens of this new world, a red robbed mysterious man seems capable of wielding extremely powerful magic in a way that should not be possible. It's unknown what his aim is or what he wants to accomplish. All that's known about this mysterious person is that he has been using forbidden level spells to kill evil-doers throughout the city.

But detective Kim is in charge of catching this murderer/hero. And he doesn't plan on giving up.

I will try and explain what happened. PLEASE ONLY READ THIS AFTER READING THE CHAPTER.

The 3 Homunculus were created to be killers, gather black mana, and recharge the 3 magical items (the watch, the sword, and the diary).

Each homunculus, when it completes the job of recharging his item, gets absorbed/destroyed to add the final 'boost' to awaken the item.

Cloud and Raven both had figured this out. Cloud is actively looking for a way to avoid this from happening. Raven, on the other hand, just recently regained his emotions and memories. Even though he knew he would be destroyed, he didn't want to live anymore. Instead, he wanted to make Crimson Robe even stronger.
So, he killed the Sage, and took back the black mana from CR, knowing that it would recharge and awaken the watch. However, he timed it so that the watch would awaken and basically 'gifted' it to CR to help make him stronger.
That's what he meant by 'leaving my fate in hands of another'.

Cloud is confused because he thought only he knew that the 3 Homunculus were created to be eventually sacrificed. Realizing that Raven knew, and had planned this out was a bit of a shock to him.

#14 or Crimson Robe, was born with as much potential, if not more, than Chris, the magician from 400 years ago. #14's inner mana reserves of Black Mana were transferred into Raven, this is why Raven and CR have this innate connection. Now that they both figured it out, Raven realized that he could take back the black mana he accidentally gave to CR last time, and then return it again in form of the awakened Watch. He also seems to have given enough power to CR to awaken the Sword, which is why he made the comment about the sword before he died.

Finally, Raven told CR that he had become much stronger, but it wouldn't be enough. CR, rightly so, claimed that he was strong enough to beat Raven. But Raven wasn't talking about himself, he was stating that CR is way stronger now, but still not enough to defeat Chris, which is why he chose to continue on with the suicide to make CR stronger.

Hope that clarifies it -- this manhwa is one of my favorite pieces of work, and I'm routinely amazed by the way these stories are interwined and explained together with enough mystery to keep you entertained ^_^
