Clare (Claymore)

Clare is the series' protagonist. When she was a child, a yoma made her part of its disguise and its toy, often torturing her. The yoma is killed by Teresa. Empathizing with Teresa's pain, Clare follows her for days without rest, food, or water. Teresa, after at first trying to get rid of Clare, eventually lets her travel with her, and the two became attached. The presence of a caring human in her life helps Teresa regain her lost happiness and humanity. Their life together is cut short when Teresa kills some human bandits to save Clare's life. The organization sends four of their best Claymores to execute Teresa, who is eventually killed by the awakened Priscilla. Clare vows to take Priscilla's head in revenge, and searches for a member of the organization. Once she discovers one, she demands that the organization fuse her with Teresa's flesh and blood. Clare becomes the only person to volunteer to join the Claymores and the first hybrid with 1/4 Yoma blood instead of the normal 1/2.

Lenalee Lee (D.Gray-man)

Lenalee Lee is a 16-year-old Exorcist from China. Her parents were killed by an Akuma when she was very young. Due to her ability to use the Innocence, Lenalee was forced to become an Exorcist to use her strength. Because she was separated from her single, remaining family member, she went near insane and had to be restrained. However, her brother Komui joined the Order, easing her loneliness. Therefore, sanity restored, she fights for her brother as well as her friends as she knows she has a home to return. Her perception of the "world" consists of her friends and family; whenever one of her friends dies, it seems to her as if a part of her world has been destroyed. The Dark Boots, her anti-Akuma weapon, takes the form of a pair of black boots capable of high running speed, walking on water, and using sound waves as footholds. She invoked them beyond her ability, causing them to "evolve" from their equipment type into an entirely new crystal type, that it is supposedly the first of this type.

Lucy/Nyu (Elfen Lied)

Lucy is a teenage Diclonius girl around eighteen years old. Lucy has developed strong emotions of hatred and vengeance towards regular humans mainly because of how she was treated by the majority of them as a child, making fun of her horns and giving her insulting nicknames such as freak. She seems to lack empathy, kills without much concern, and acts somewhat sadistically; however, towards the end of the series, she begins to show remorse for her actions, especially towards Kohta.

Nyu a split personality of Lucy that developed after a .50 BMG round ricocheted off a metallic helmet encasing her head. Nyu has a childlike personality and infantile knowledge of the world, forgetting even that she is a Diclonius and how to use or manifest her vectors, leaving her as a human with horns. She initially lacks spoken language skills; however, she eventually learns a handful of words and phrases until (in the manga) she can finally speak properly despite the fact she still uses the nonsensical phrase nyu as her catchphrase. Nyu is innocent and incapable of violent acts, a foil to the normally cold and sadistic Lucy; she is the manifestation of her "good side". Whenever Nyu hits her head or when she is confronted with violence, she reverts to her sadistic side, Lucy.
