Kevin Ranscomb had just returned from duty with the Marines in Iraq.
His first stop was Bethesda Naval Hospital where he met his parents and
siblings and was fitted with an artificial left leg. He had lost his leg
from the knee down in combat but the Navy doctors gave him a fully
functioning replacement.
After release from Bethesda Kevin decided to find a house for himself
near the at Camp Lejuene NC Marine base. He could afford an expensive
house but decided that he would be happier in a less expensive one in a
subdivision with neighbors around that he could talk to. Kevin was being
medically retired and had never married, so he felt that being around good
neighbors would be good for him. He found a brick house with a porch on
almost Ѕ acre. It had four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a family room and
room besides the normal living room and kitchen. He bought the house and
quickly moved in.
Kevin purchased a classically styled Ethan Allen-type bedroom suite with
a large king size bed to hold his 6'3" body. He rented dining room and
living room sets until he decided what he wanted.
He met two neighbors while moving in. Jack and Nancy Spenser lived
across the street. They actually helped him move in and fed him lunch and
briefed them on some of the other neighbors. When they learned that Kevin
was single, they told him that the house next to his was owned by a young
widow and her daughter. The woman's husband had been killed in Afghanistan
and she sort of kept to herself. She looked lonely most of the time but
seemed upbeat when she did talk to the neighbors. The Spensers suggested
that Kevin take the time to meet her as looked like she could use a friend.
He said that he would go over and introduce himself in the next couple of
days. They said her name was Lynn Miller.
Kevin heard knocking at the door as her was getting out of the shower.
He wrapped a large beach towel around his waist and answered the door on
his crutches. There at the door stood a beautiful tall Asian-American
woman with a little girl. She introduced herself as Lynn Miller, looked at
Kevin, and asked if she should come back later. Kevin's face turned red as
he asked them to sit down and wait while he dressed.
Lynn and her daughter sat down and looked at some framed pictures Kevin
had stacked on the couch. Lynn was shocked. The pictures showed that the
heavily muscled handsome stud who opened the door was the same skinny Kevin
Ranscomb she had known in high school. She was a sophomore when he
graduated, but everyone knew him and what a supposed wimp he was. She
silently licked her lips as she thought of the hunk he now was. She was
also thankful that she was one girl who had never made fun of him. She
then remembered why she had never said anything. Kevin was a judo student
back then who had saved her girlfriend from a rape. He had asked the girl
and her friends to keep quiet about it. He didn't want the publicity.
Lynn knew something else about Kevin. He had taken her sister Alice to
their senior prom when her boyfriend dumped her for another guy a week
before the event. The two knew there was no romantic chemistry between
they but they became fast friends. They stayed in touch through college
and afterwards, and Kevin attended her wedding and met her husband. Alice
and her husband had been there for Kevin when his fiancй was killed in an
auto accident. They still stayed in touch. When Kevin told Alice that he
was buying a house in the area, she had told Lynn to look him up. He would
make a good husband and father. Lynn never dreamed that she'd have to look
no further than next door. She also decided that she wasn't going to let a
missing leg stand in her way. She did wonder if Alice knew about that.
Kevin walked into the room and surprised Lynn and her daughter. He was
now walking. Lynn asked, and Kevin showed them his artificial leg. He
just said that he had been wounded in Iraq.
Lynn told Kevin that if he didn't already have dinner plans he was
welcome to eat with them. Kevin laughed and accepted, saying that dinner
and conversation with her and her daughter was much better than his "date"
with a TV dinner and ESPN. Lynn led the way to her house as Kevin held the
door for the two females.
Lynn had fixed a delicious pot roast dinner. She offered him wine, but
he politely declined, saying he didn't drink. Lynn then remembered that
his ex-fiance had been killed by a drunk driver.
During dinner Kevin talked with both Lynn and Susan. After dinner he
talked with Susan and played Candyland with her. She was excited because
he reminded her of her dead daddy. who always took time to play with her.
Lynn sat and watched, with tears forming in her eyes. It had been almost
three years since her husband had last played a game with Susan. Kevin
noticed and immediately realized the reason for the tears. Inside, he was
very happy to cheer them up like this and hoped he could do it a lot more.
He remembered what it felt like to lose a loved one.
After the Candyland game ended Susan told Kevin to sit by her mother.
She then blurted out, "Aunt Alice is trying to match you two up!"
Kevin asked who Aunt Alice was.
Lynn replied, "She's your friend Alice Goodson - my sister!"
Kevin looked at her for a minutes and said, " I remember you! You had
brown hair back then!"
Lynn smiled and said, "I decided that I like blond better."
"Hope I'm not being presumptuous, but is this our first date? If so,
I'm enjoying it a lot!"
Lynn looked at Kevin and took his hand. "Kevin, I had no idea it was
you who moved next door. Once I saw those pictures and remembered what you
did for my friend and my sister, and what she told me to do, I knew this
was going to be a date. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. This is my
first date since my dead husband and I were dating."
Kevin looked at her and said, "Lynn, this is my first date since my
fiancй died. For two inexperienced people, we seem to be doing allright.
Come here!"
Lynn moved into Kevin's arms and he kissed her gently on the cheek,
saying, "I hope you don't mind."
"Kevin, you can kiss me anywhere you want. It's been awhile, but
between school all those years ago and what Alice keeps saying, it feels
like I've known you for awhile."
The couple melted into each other's arms and watched TV. Lynn looked at
Susan and asked, "Honey, is this making you uncomfortable?"
Susan replied, "Mom, Daddy's in Heaven. I believe Aunt Alice when she
says Kevin would be the best replacement daddy. I already like him and you
need a new friend and husband!"
A surprised Lynn asked her daughter, "Honey, where that stuff about a
new friend and husband come from?"
"I don't know Mom. It just popped into my brain and I just had to say
it!"
Lynn replied, "Darling, maybe God put those words in your mouth, or
you're more grown up inside than I thought."
"Keep him Mom, as long as he keeps acting this sweet to both of us."
Kevin just listened and smiled. He was shocked at finding a girlfriend
so soon and had never seriously considered one with a daughter. However,
at his age, it was to be expected, and this budding relationship just felt
so comfortable. He just hoped that he wouldn't come across like he was
taking advantage of either of them. He felt thankful. He hugged Lynn
lightly and moved her head to his shoulder. They watched TV until it was
time for Susan to go to bed.
Before going to bed, Susan said, "Kevin, you can kiss Mom if she'll let
you. Just promise me that you'll always be nice to both of us."
Kevin replied, "Susan, I'd be crazy to NOT be nice to you two!
Good-night!
Lynn came back from Susan's room, sat next to Kevin and said, "Please
kiss me!" Kevin kissed her gently on the lips for a few seconds.
Lynn looked at him and said, "More please! REALLY kiss me now!" She
jumped into his lap with one leg on either side of his and looked at him.
Kevin pulled her quickly to his lips and gave her a strong passionate kiss
that lasted several minutes, his tongue dueling with hers. He let her up
so they could catch their breath and they resumed kissing. Kevin was
pulling Lynn's body towards his and she was grinding her breasts into his
chest. After a while the couple just sat talking, seated as they were when
kissing. Kevin was rubbing his hands over her back and pulling her in for
hugs. She loved it and was purring.
Lynn was concerned that she was acting too forward with Kevin, almost
sluttish. He replied that this was her first date in many years and
essentially, they had been matched up, they had known each other for years,
even if they were never close, and were clicking. Kevin then told Lynn
that the Spensers across the street had told him that he should meet her
and Alice had mentioned her to him. He also was amazed that they now just
happened to live next to each other.
The couple spent many hours together every day. Lynn's job didn't keep
them apart because she was a teacher and had the summer off. Kevin was on
light duty for a month, awaiting assignment.
Little Susan was enthusiastic about Kevin and Lynn being together and
often went to her room so they could kiss. She also told them that they
could kiss in front of her because they were in love. It was that night, a
month after meeting, that Kevin and Lynn admitted that they loved each
other. They went out and casually looked at diamond rings in jewelry
stores. Susan let them know that she liked the diamond solitaires.
Kevin and Lynn were both strong Christians. Both believed that mere
church attendance didn't make a person a Christian. They went to church
every Sunday, and often more often. They tried to use the Bible and
meditation on it's verses to help them in every decision in life. They
knew they were far from perfect, but felt that Jesus bled and died on the
cross so that God could overlook their humanity and forgive their sins,
making them acceptable in His sight. They also felt that, as Christians,
God would forgive their sins when they sincerely confessed them to Him.
They also felt that their Christianity gave them something special in
common. Both Kevin and Lynn always tried to let Christian love control
them when dealing with other people.
Fire changed their lives two months after they met. Kevin was a member
of the local part-paid, part professional fire department. His pager went
off one morning at 2AM to alert him to a house fire. He heard the address
and knew it was on his street, very close. He ran outside and was shocked
to see it was Lynn's house, almost fully engulfed in flames. He quickly
put his gear and his self-contained breathing apparatus (he had his own
unit) and radioed that there were two people trapped inside. He then
kicked the front door in and crawled through the flames to the bedroom
doors. Both were closed and he could hear Lynn and Susan screaming. He
kicked Susan's door in, got her, broke open the bedroom window, put her
outside, and told her to wait at the telephone pole at the street in front
of the house. He then opened Lynn's door. He got her, and they exited
through a bedroom window. Kevin was glad that it was a one-story house.
That made the rescues and exits much easier.
The smoke and fire was too bad to take any possessions out with them.
Kevin led Lynn and Susan to a waiting ambulance where they were given
oxygen and taken to the hospital for a checkup. The fire chief let Kevin
go to the hospital with Lynn and Susan because they were distraught and in
shock. They had almost died and had lost everything.
At the hospital, Kevin told the two that they could stay with him and to
not worry about clothes, etc. He would take care of it. He just wanted
his two favorite people with him every day. All were released and the
Spensers took all three to Kevin's house from the hospital.
Kevin took Lynn and Susan out to a 24-hour Wal-Mart to get them some
clothes and footwear, as all they now had were the nightgowns they escaped
in. He was glad there were so few people around as Lynn and Susan felt
embarrassed being in the store in nightgowns. At Lynn's request, Kevin
bought her denim shorts that only came down to her crotch, some miniskirts,
thigh-high hose, and 4-inch sandals. She put them on in the store, along
with a blouse that tied under her breasts, exposing her bare stomach.
Kevin saw this and smiled, as he could see that Lynn was making a statement
about their relationship.
Kevin then took them to get breakfast and shocked Lynn but delighted
Susan. He gave Lynn a 2 carat diamond ring and proposed to her. He said
he was going to propose that evening, but decided to do it early so she
would know that she at least would never have to worry about where to live.
Lynn's eyes opened wide at the size of the ring. She had never seen a
diamond that large. She cried, nodded her head, and said. "YES, yes,
yes!" through her tears. She jumped in his lap and they kissed
passionately for a few minutes. When the manager came over to check into
the commotion, Lynn just showed her the new ring. The manager smiled and
congratulated the couple.
Susan grinned ear to ear, bouncing in her seat, saying, "Kevin's gonna
marry Mommy! Kevin's gonna marry Mommy! I have a new daddy!" From then
on, she called Kevin "Daddy".
Kevin took everyone home. They went through the burnt house and found
some salvageable family pictures, jewelry, and a metal box with important
papers. They also found Susan's teddy bear, other stuffed animals, and
other possessions that could be cleaned up.
The fire department had done a good job of controlling further spread of
the fire. They found Lynn's purse and got it to her. Almost everything in
the garage, including Christmas decorations and some winter clothes
survived. They also found a box Lynn had forgotten about. It was the
leather and some spike heels she used to wear when her first husband was
alive. She packed it away when he died and had forgotten about it. She
decided she wanted to wear it as much as she could around Kevin.
Everyone was tired after visiting the burnt house and turned in for a
nap. Kevin and Lynn slept together for the first time. They were too
tired for sex but slept in each other's arms after telling each other that
they loved the other. They awoke at supper time.
After ordering Susan a bed and a dresser, they went out to dinner. They
then went clothes shopping again. Kevin bought Susan some dresses, shoes,
and other things. He bought Lynn some dresses, blouses and clothes for
work. She bought herself some heels and had her nipples and navel pierced.
She had a gold chain run from the nipple rings, cross in front, then go
around her neck. Lynn explained that this was not like her but she wanted
to be wild and sexy for her husband. Kevin said that he loved the idea of
a wild and sexy wife.
Lynn called her sister. Alice said she would visit as soon as her
husband could get off. Alice sent her more miniskirts and sheer blouses
with pockets hiding nipples, writing to Lynn that she had to keep her man
hot and bothered.
Kevin and Lynn made love for the first time that night. Lynn found to
her extreme pleasure that Kevin was more than 9-1/2 inches long and over

little girl said she didn't because her mom and dad were just showing their
love for each other.
The new family went to breakfast and then picked out new living room,
dining room, and family room furniture sets and a chest freezer. They then
bought a laptop for Lynn's teaching and one for Kevin. Lynn was happy
because she had a backup of most of her teaching material on a thumb drive
in her car.
Lynn had picked out more some new clothes during their shopping. She
said that she wanted to dress up for her man. Kevin had told her that he
was taking her out dancing. The Spensers would watch Susan.
Kevin was thrilled when Lynn was ready. The hemline of her new red
dress was halfway down her thighs but a side slit exposed her legs all the
way to her hips. The dress also exposed the top third of her breasts.
Light red hose encased her legs, which looked very sexy in her flaming red,
five-inch spike heels. He led her to their bedroom and took her right
away. He took her again in the restaurant parking lot and before they went
dancing.
Many men vainly tried to get dances and more with Lynn. She just said
that her man was giving her all she could handle. Kevin did just that for
half the night. He noticed a new radiance on her face. When he asked, she
said that she was marrying her lover and she was very well loved.
Alice was also a teacher. She called to ask if her and her family could
visit for a week. Kevin said it was no problem, but told them to bring
sleeping bags for their two children, as the house didn't yet have spare
beds.
Kevin and Lynn hurriedly bought a queen size bed for a second bedroom
and cots for Alice's children. The other furniture they ordered arrived
the day before Alice, her husband John, and their children.
While John and Alice were there, Kevin and Lynn took them to dinner and
then dancing. Lynn wore black spike heels with ankle straps, thigh-high
mesh hose, a very short, tight skirt that covered her butt by only a few
inches, a black bra with holes for her nipples, a almost-transparent white
blouse and several rings. She used a dark lip rouge that matched her spike
heels. The holes in the bra torpedoed her breasts forward where they
pushed out the material of her blouse, her nipples making sharp points in
the material. Everything was barely hidden by the blouse material. Alice
borrowed some things from Lynn to put on a show for John. There was a lot
of noise in two bedrooms that night.
Kevin and Lynn married a week later so they could take a honeymoon
before school started. They went to Hershey, Pennsylvania Dutch Country
and Steamtown in Pennsylvania, then spent a few days alone in a cabin in
the Poconos. Their son was conceived in that cabin.
The family got a surprise after Kevin and Lynn returned from their
honeymoon. Kevin was ordered to be present at an award ceremony to receive
two Navy Crosses and a Distinguished Service Medal. He had never told
anyone other than his parents that he had already been awarded two
Distinguished Service Medals, two Silver Stars and two Bronze Stars.
Kevin's parents had never told Lynn because they thought she knew. Kevin
apologized. He just didn't think it was important.
Lynn invited Alice and her family, partly in thanks for Alice matching
them up. Both women were shocked when they saw the man who they had known
long ago as a skinny wimp. He was a Lieutenant Colonel with a lot of
ribbons. His whole family was very proud to see Kevin get the additional
medals. He was also received an accelerated promotion to Colonel. Lynn
couldn't believe that she was now a colonel's wife. She knew that the
other wives might not appreciate her dress around Kevin. She decided she
would still wear short miniskirts off base, but would wear longer
miniskirts and more modest outfits when on the base or at related
functions. She would still wear her leather trousers and leather skirts and
jackets with Kevin anywhere. Kevin just said that the other colonel's
wives might be jealous because most of them couldn't wear what she could.
He just took her to their bedroom and took her again...and again.
Some colonel's wives found that Lynn was the widow of a dead soldier.
They openly wondered if she had just spread her net to attract Kevin, whom
they acknowledged was very good looking. Kevin responded by letting it be
known that he had known Lynn and her sister since high school. Those same
wives then made out their marriage to be some fairy tale coming together.
Kevin and Lynn didn't care. They were just madly in love with each other.
Lynn was showing and was very happy with her pregnancy.
Kevin adopted Susan as his daughter. They bonded well. Susan enjoyed
having two parents again and felt during her teenage years that they gave
her a little bit of extra security. She also enjoyed Kevin's willingness
to help her on school projects. Kevin had, for the fun of it, earned a PhD
in American History. Susan and her classmates enjoyed it when Kevin came
to her school and publicly debated her liberal revisionist teacher and his
boyfriend. Kevin humiliated them in the debate, so the principal had him
come back regularly as a guest lecturer in US history.
Kevin had made colonel in his 16th year in the Marines. His promotion
potential was limited because he couldn't command a combat unit with his
artificial leg. However, he did make Brigadier General in his 20th year
and retired after 23 years. Even at retirement, Kevin looked ten years
younger than his age. Lynn was 43 and still looked like she was in her
late 20s. She was still wearing leather, miniskirts, and short shorts with
heels often and made young guys drool. She and Kevin still made love
virtually every day, often more than once. They were proud over their
daughter when she was admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy. Kevin was a
little disappointed when she declined a scholarship to his alma mater, the
Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He was later pleased that he son chose
to attend that school.
Soon after retiring, Kevin accepted a position at VMI as a professor of
history. He also tutored cadets in calculus and taught about the influence
of Christianity in American history during Baptist Student Union meetings
and in special optional lectures at the school. Lynn loved the natural
beauty of the Lexington Virginia area. She quickly got a teaching position
there.
