The rules for AnimeS Expo 2015 Cosplay competitions:
This year the General and Competitive cosplay will be separated in two days. The General Cosplay category will be held the first day of the event, and the Competitive Cosplay category will be held the second day. All are allowed admittance to the General Cosplay category. For Competitive Cosplay the contestant must have 14 years of age by June 2016. This has to do with the nature of the prizes in Competitive Cosplay category. Please read the details about this in the Competitive category prizes section.
Rules for General Cosplay:In this category contestants can compete Solo as well as a groups of 2 to 5 contestants.
- There is no age limit for signing up. Contestants younger than 14 years must contact the head organizers of Cosplay and sign up with the permission of their parents.
- To sign up, the contestant must provide identity information and contact information as well as a picture of the character with good quality. If providing a picture is not possible - then a detailed description is required.
- It is recommended, but NOT required for pictures of the costume's crafting process to be sent. Also Facebook or other website links can be sent, if the pictures are uploaded there.
- If the contestant has any speech, or says anything during the on-stage performance, it should be in English. If it is not in English a video clip with English subtitles is REQUIRED. If the contestant cannot make the video - contact the organizers and they will make it instead.
- If the contestant has music or video to include in the on-scene performance, the files (in good quality) must be sent as soon as possible, at the latest 3 weeks before the event. If the contestant cannot create the needed files, contact the organizers and we will help.
- It is recommended that along with the audio file the contestant sends a detailed description of the on-stage performance. That includes the planned acting and any props and decor if any will be used.
- Original characters, and fanmade cosplay is allowed, there are no hard limits on what you can do. The organizers retain the right to disqualify a contestant from on-stage if they decide that the costume or planned performance is too vulgar, unsafe or too offensive.
- Solo contestants have 2 minutes on-scene time. This is counted from the start of the audio or video clip.
- Groups can be from 2 to 5 contestants. In this category groups have 6 minutes on-scene time. This is counted from the start of the audio or video clip. To register as a group
IT IS REQUIRED that the organizer of the group sends the entire information about all the contestants in ONE email, within the required time limit. If multiple emails for each of the contestants are received, this will not qualify as a group sign-up.
- The costumes and performances are forbidden from excessive nudity, and vulgar/offensive elements.
The General cosplay category is meant for people who cosplay for fun and have no intention to compete professionally for the big prizes. Instead in this category there are a multitude of other prizes.
The prizes for category General Cosplay are:- Best of show
- Best costume - male
- Best costume - female
- Best prop/décor
- Best wig / hairstyling
- Best character acting
- Best make up
- Best Fanmade cosplay
Rules for category Competitive Cosplay:In this category contestants may enter as Solo participants or in Groups of 2 contestants.
- The character must be canon - original, seriously modified or fan variants are NOT allowed.
- The contestant must be at least 14 years of age by June 2016. This has to do with the nature of the prizes for this category. READ BELOW for details.
-For the mystery prizes the contestant must be be 18 years or older by January 2016 and to have Bulgarian citizenship
- To sign up the contestant must provide identity information and contact information as well as a picture of the character with good quality. It is recommended to include a general description of the costume and planned props and decor.

IT IS MANDATORY to send a minimum of 5 pictures and at least a video (5 minutes min) of the crafting process. Pictures and videos of hands only are NOT valid, the whole person must be filmed during crafting. If this is not sent, the contestant is moved directly to the General Cosplay category.
- The contestant MUST contact the organizers 2 weeks before the event at the latest, to discuss the performance. It can be a meeting, a Skype talk or in reserve cases - a phone talk. A live meeting is recommended.

IT IS MANDATORY that the contestant or group sends an email with detailed description of the on-stage performance: the acting, the desired stage lighting, the music or video file MUST be attached. Again, if the contestant cannot manage to create the desired music or video file - contact the organizers and we will help.

- Every contestant has the right to one backstage assistant. The assistant can enter the changing rooms or help on-stage by giving props or decor. The assistant cannot participate in the performance directly. The contestant may ask for assistants from the organization volunteers.
- The costumes and performances are forbidden from excessive nudity, and vulgar/offensive elements. The organizers retain the right to disqualify a contestant from on-stage if they decide that the costume or planned performance is too vulgar, unsafe or too offensive.
- To register as a group
IT IS REQUIRED that the organizer of the group sends the entire information about all the contestants in ONE email, within the required time limit. If multiple emails for each of the contestants are received, this will not qualify as a group sign-up.
Violating the rules of this category leads to disqualification or to being moved to the General Cosplay category.The prizes for Solo and Group in Competitive category are:
Paid travel and stay for Japan Expo 2016.Mystery prizes.The Competitive Cosplay contestants must be a minimum of 14 years old by June 2016 due to the laws of international travel. If a contestant under 18 wins the prize, AnimeS Expo will pay
ONLY for his/her travel and stay. The required by law Parent will have to pay for themselves.
